In the last few years, I have participated in a variety of media productions in which the use of digital technology was essential. I have started off by doing my AS Media coursework, in which I have done a two minute film opening sequence, then I have moved on to my A2 coursework in which I created a teaser trailer. Additionally, I have created an independent media production in my free time, which was developed from my Art coursework, where minimal use of advanced technology was used.
As a part of my first media production, I had minimal knowledge about software that I was required to use in order to put a production together, therefore I have used Windows Movie Maker to edit the footage together which is a basic software that does not enhance my creativity at all. In terms of other technologies, I was required to use Microsoft Paint and PowerPoint to edit images for my AS Art Mock exam, however after starting my AS Media coursework, I got introduced to more advanced digital technologies. The first production I have done was my preliminary task where we experimented with a variety of camera shots. We used a flip camera to film it which is a basic camera with a lower quality than for example a DSLR camera. For editing, we have used iMovie which is more advanced than Windows Movie Maker, therefore my editing skills have developed by moving on to a more advanced software. iMove enabled me to be more creative with cutting shots together as we could show continuity by having particular transitions, whereas when using Windows Movie Maker, my creativity was limited as I did not have experience with the technology required to express what I wanted through video work.
For my AS Media production, I have moved further to use a variety of other digital technologies on the internet, for example, Weebly. It is a technology that allowed me to do my research and planning process which led me to complete my coursework. Before learning about Weebly, I have presented my planning of the project using printed out sheets, folders and mood boards, but now I have knowledge of Weebly which allows me to use features such as attaching video and audio files which is a massive step-forward in terms of presenting my work.
As for my A2 Media production, we have advanced in the knowledge of digital technologies as we used Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro which are more advanced software which enhances creativity. By using these software, we were able to create a teaser trailer which meets the conventions of our teaser trailer and we could experiment with using different techniques, for example, we put an image on top of a video at the end of our trailer which was a technology we were not able to use before. Photoshop enabled us to create our poster and magazine cover in addition to our trailer and it was a massive step-up from using Microsoft Paint for my previous productions. Photoshop has so much more tools available, therefore enhancing creativity when it comes to designing products. As a part of our A2 coursework, we also used the green screen which we manipulated using Premiere Pro with the keying feature which allowed us to put any background instead of the green screen. This was an useful technology as it enabled us to be creative in terms of our evaluation.
Overall, I have progressed in my knowledge of digital technologies throughout these years and I picked up useful skills which enhanced my creativity when it comes to digital productions.
